Synopsis

Broadcast History

Ordered to series after the success of the Dinotopia miniseries, this show premiered on ABC on November 28, 2002. Thirteen episodes were produced, but only six were aired during the original network run. The other episodes aired in the U.K. in the summer of 2003.

"Marooned Part 1"

Debut: A man and his two sons (Erik von Detten, Shiloh Strong) survive a plane crash only to find themselves stranded on an island populated by a society of humans and dinosaurs. First up: The populace is menaced by T-Rexes when the protective sunstones fail, and a mysterious amulet is discovered by a rebel group called the Outsiders. Based on the books by James Gurney. "Making Good Part 2"

Conclusion. The Outsiders use the mysterious green amulet to gain control of the T-Rexes and invade Waterfall City. "Handful of Dust"

A deranged alchemist named Cortez (Philip Voss) discovers a potion that restores youth, but it requires the tail spikes from stegosauruses, which he is systematically hunting and killing. "Contact"

Karl (Erick von Detten) discovers a radio on a wrecked ship and slowly manages to make it work, dreaming all the while of using it as a way to leave Dinotopia. However, no one else agrees with him. "The Matriarch"

The theft of a dinosaur egg during a special celebration sparks an incident with the Outsiders---and Le Sage---when it's discovered a dinosaur egg has been switched with that of a T-Rex, which hatches and wreaks havoc at the dinosaur nursery. Frank (Michael Brandon) introduces the art of the wager to Dinotopia, and ends up as a fight promoter with Le Sage (Lisa Zane), setting up a boxing match between David (Shiloh Strong) and an Outsider named Alano (Danny Midwinter), who is vying for the eye of Marion (Georgina Rylance). "Lost and Found"

When David (Shiloh Strong) suggests Karl (Erik von Detten) join the Skybax, the sibling rivalry heats up and Karl rashly attempts flying. "LeSage"

A mysterious disease infects all the saurians of Dinotopia, rendering them incapable of harvesting the crops, but Le Sage (Lisa Zane) and the Outsiders have stolen the antidote and are holding it for ransom. "Night of the Wartosa"

Karl (Erik von Detten) meets a strange, toad-like creature called a wartosa that, after he kisses it on a bet, sends him back in time, where he tries to seduce Marion (Georgina Rylance). But each time he goes back, things get more complicated. David: Shiloh Strong. Voice of Zipeau: Omid Djalili.

"Car Wars"

Dinotopia is in upheaval when Mayor Waldo (Jonathan Hyde) finds himself in a three-way battle for mayor with Zipeau and a disgruntled Frank Scott (Michael Brandon), whose budding automobile factory has been shut down by Waldo. "The Cure Part 1"

Karl becomes extremely sick with a potentially fatal disease after a strange insect bites him, and the only cure involves using a magic portal that can transport people out of Dinotopia. "The Cure Part 2"

Conclusion. David's plan to use a magic portal to find a cure for Karl's illness backfires when Le Sage finds out and demands to join him in leaving Dinotopia. "Crossroads"

The secret of the portal is revealed and the council debates whether the Scotts should have access to it---and whether those who leave Dinotopia can keep its existence a secret.
